Our Visitors from Pah-ginya

Brad’s brother, Drew, sister-in-law, Kate, and the kids came to Greenville to visit this weekend! Jackson is 5, Maeve is 3 and Simone (or Simoney-Boney, as Maeve calls her) is 5 weeks! Drew and Kate moved to Virginia (or Pah-ginya as Maeve calls it) in June and we have seen them several times this summer, but Drew and the Kiddos had never been to Greenville. Kate came for my bachelorette party/girls weekend in December 2009, but hadn’t seen the new house yet.

Between traffic and of course the madness that is travelling with two young kids and a newborn, they didn’t arrive until after midnight on Friday. We waited up for them, then put everyone to bed right away, but needless to say, I wasn’t excited to hear my alarm going off a mere 6 hours later when it was time to get up and go ride. Yes, despite having fun visitors in town, training didn’t cease!

So I headed off for a 3 1/2 hour ride at 7 a.m. but not before this little guy decided to throw up in our room as a send off:

Despite my sleepiness and bad attitude starting out the ride, these two friends made it a great morning and 3. 5 hours flew by before I knew it!

When I got back, Drew, Brad, Jackson and Maeve had gone to Target to score a new Star Wars Wii game, so I was able to shower and get ready for the day. Once they got back, the Ultimate Star Wars Wii Team was formed (Brad & J-man) and they would have played that game ALL WEEKEND if we didn’t drag both of them away from it! They were hilarious, cheering each other on one minute then arguing like they were BOTH 5-year-olds the next 🙂

Eventually we dragged them away for lunch and a walk through Fall’s Park. Jackson decided it was fun to throw ice off the bridge at the ducks. His Aunt and Uncle might have encouraged that, but Mom and Dad weren’t too thrilled 🙂

Then we took a walk down by the river. Jackson wanted to swim in it but we assured him that the water there is definitely not clean to swim in and convinced him to stay on the rocks.

So instead he cooled off by running through the water fountain!

Jackson tried to get Uncle Brad to go in too, but he was being a dud and didn’t want to get wet!

After our walk, we grabbed drinks and waters from Starbucks and chilled in the shade for a while. Simone definitely was the coolest one there!

After we got back, I went to the store to pick up dinner stuff and we spent the rest of the afternoon hanging around the house while the Star Wars Team battled it out. I made our favorite spinach/chicken/vodka sauce pasta for dinner and we enjoyed a bottle of wine before most of us fell asleep on the couches watching football.

Sunday morning I got up early to get an hour run in before more adventures started for the day. After a quick 7 miles (half with Walter) and a shower, we headed to breakfast at Mary Beth’s our favorite breakfast spot in G-Ville.

After Breakfast, we took the whole crew to the dog park, then to the kids’ park to let all of the kids & dogs release some energy! J-man had fun dragging Ernie around the park, including down the slides, while Maeve proudly introduced him to all the other kids as “Oornie”. Ernie was a pretty good sport about it, but he was definitely pooped once we left!

Next, we made a trip to Whole Foods to get meat to grill for dinner and to stock up on lots of things they can’t get in Roanoke. After a quick stop to drop off the groceries, we then headed to the zoo! Greenville has a really nice zoo for a small-ish town and the kids had a great time!

After the zoo, Simone needed to eat so we hung out with the kids at the park while Kate fed her. I took a little snooze on the park bench while Brad and Drew chased them around 🙂 Then Maeve did a little baby-sitting before we left!

We were all exhausted after the zoo, so we lounged around while the Star Wars Crew continued their domination and eventually fired up the grill for dinner. We grilled bacon wrapped scallops as an appetizer then had an assortment of meats based on everyone’s choices, including hotdogs and chicken for the kiddos, salmon for Kate, a spinach and feta turkey burger for me and bison steaks for Drew and Brad. We forgot to grill the asparagus, but had plenty of food anyway! After the kiddies went to bed, Jason and Alicia came over and we sat around drinking wine and chatting until midnight. It was a blast telling stories and laughing.

Monday morning we all slept in and hung around the house until everyone was packed up and laundry was all done. Then we headed to our favorite lunch place, Midtown Deli, where we had a yummy, lego-filled lunch 🙂

After lunch, it was time for the Pah-Ginyan’s to head home. It is always sad to say goodbye, but now that they live so close, we always know that it won’t be long before we see them again!!
