Yesterday I showed you how I spent the majority of the last 2 weeks leading up to our New Year’s Celebration.
One of the highlights of the Holidays this year was a trip to Phoenix to visit my very best friend, Audra and her husband BJ. Audie and I were softball teammates and roommates in college and even though we only see each other about once a year, we have remained best friends ever since.
This summer Audra and BJ were in Charleston, SC for the last night of a beach vacation/5 year anniversary trip. We met up with them for the night and after a couple of bottles of wine, decided that we would spend New Year’s with them in Phoenix this year.
So it was set and we flew from Houston to sunny Phoenix on the 29th for 3 days of fun! Unfortunately, after Brad’s surgery, he wasn’t able to golf with BJ as originally planned, but they managed to occupy their time making fun of each other and cruising the fancy car dealerships in Scottsdale, drooling over $500K cars.
We did lots of chatting, hanging out and playing cards on Thursday afternoon and evening. Then Friday while the boys did their thing, we went for a run (8×800’s – woohoo!), hung out with Audra’s sweet angels (Rilynna and Ava) and did some shopping. Friday night the baby sitter arrived and we started with dinner at Benihana in Scottsdale.
As you can see, the night ramped up quickly with sake bombs and we continued the evening by hitting up the casino. We were all lucky at Black Jack and everyone either came out ahead or broke even. I won a whopping $25 and Doc (BJ’s dad) was the big winner at $190!
Saturday morning started early with sweet Ava’s 1st Birthday Party! She is a New Year’s Eve baby so the whole world celebrates her birthday!
Big Sister Rilynn had some fun at the party too while sporting her Arizona cheerleading outfit, since the basketball team played rival ASU that afternoon.
It was really fun seeing Audra’s whole family at the party. I got to know them really well in college, but haven’t seen them since.
The girls headed home with Grandma after the party and it wasn’t long before the New Year’s Eve fun began. We played bags and hung out ALL DAY before getting the night going with a little flippy cup as the evening set in.
Girls vs. Guys was no contest and eventually we had to switch up the teams because the girls were too good! True story.
Finally, we headed out for dinner and an evening of dancing and fun!
Brad wasn’t feeling super hot (gallbladder surgery + alcohol = no good) so after I got this smooch from him at midnight, he headed home and left me with the girls to party the night away!
I even wore heels! And therefore my feet were absolutely KILLING me by the time we ended the evening (morning?) at 2 a.m.!
Needless to say the next morning came quickly and we were on a flight and headed home to Houston before I knew it. We had an absolute blast and can’t wait for Audra and BJ to head east this summer and do it all over again in South Carolina!
