Hi Everyone! I am a little late in posting this because of my weekend away with the girls, but I have to share that one of my favorite bloggers, Dorothy from Mile-Posts, featured me on her blog last Thursday! I was super excited when a Twitter exchange about other athlete bios led to Dorothy offering to feature me! I am honored to be included in a blog that I enjoy reading so much! And congrats to Dorothy who just PR’d in the B&A Marathon yesterday, with a 3:11!!! I can only dream of being that fast!

Why did you start running: I was a Division 1 Softball player in college and was always an athlete, so when I was in high school I started running to stay in shape for sports. After college I was missing the competitiveness of playing softball, but still ran to stay in shape. At some point it clicked in me that I could fulfill my competitive desire by competing with myself for how far and how fast I could run everyday. It wasn’t until I completed my first 1/2 marathon with a group of friends in 2008 that I became addicted and seriously got into running as a sport.
Favorite Race Distance: I love to train for full marathons because I really enjoy long runs and pushing myself, but my favorite distance to race is probably the half marathon because I feel comfortable enough with the distance to relax and enjoy it, but confident enough to push myself to race faster every time.
How Many Marathons Have you Run: 3 full marathons, 8 half marathons

- Half Marathon: 1:44:39 (Savannah 2011)
- 10K: 45:30 (Reedy River 2011)
- 5K: 21:13 (as part of a sprint triathlon – 2011)
Do you cross train or lift weights: Yes! I also compete in triathlons so I love to swim and bike. Over the last year, I have been trying to focus on strength training of some sort at least once a week.
Running accomplishment you are most proud of: Completing my 3rd marathon in Houston in January. It was a tough day and I never felt great the whole race, but I kept calm, relied on my training and finished with a 2:01 PR.
Favorite Pre-Race Food: Small whole wheat bagel with almond butter and a little honey, plus a banana
Favorite Post-Race Food: I am not usually very hungry for at least a couple of hours after races (especially marathons), but once I finally do get an appetite, I usually crave something really salty like pizza, pretzels or chips.
How do you find/make time to train: I travel quite a bit for work, but have found that I love running in new places and as long as I get up early enough, I can usually get it in before my days starts. I am usually up at 5 a.m. to get miles in, whether I am home or on the road. I am fortunate that I have an understanding husband who supports my running (from the sidelines) and also some good running buddies to keep me company on early morning and long runs.

If you could give one bit of advice to someone who wants to become a runner – what would it be: You are a REAL runner whether you run marathons or one mile. Try not to be frustrated or tell yourself that you are not a “real runner” because you have to stop and walk. Just continue to set goals for yourself and push to reach those goals. If you can run 0.5 miles, you can run a mile and if you can run a mile, you can run 2 miles and so on…this is true until you have gone as far as you desire.
